We are a user-led charity established in 2001 and work with a range of people with support needs so that they can live independently.
Our vision is a society where everyone can live their life independently, with the same choices and freedoms, regardless of any disability, care need or caring responsibility.
Our mission is to deliver top quality support and services to enable people with disabilities, care needs or caring responsibilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
We strive to break down barriers that prevent people from living independent lives so that everyone can participate as fully as they want to in society.
Committed to the social model of disability
We believe that disability is caused by the way society is organised, rather than by a person’s impairment. When barriers are removed, disabled people can be independent and equal in society, with choice and control over their own lives.
Led by disabled people
We believe that our work should be directed by the people who know best – our members and customers. We are run by the people who use our services, led by a board of trustees directly accountable to all other members. Our constitution requires that the majority of trustees and members are disabled people or carers.
Inclusive and understanding
We work in a friendly, open and honest way. We listen to and respect people valuing their ideas and opinions. We embrace difference and actively work to overcome barriers to communication and participation.
Committed to empowering people
We believe everyone has the right to make decisions about their own life. We are committed to promoting a positive voice for disability and campaigning to safeguard people’s rights.
Committed to challenging and questioning inequality
We will take every opportunity to challenge and question inequality in our society and explore new approaches and solutions to enable people to live independent lives.
